Chicken Cordon Bleu Sliders

Chicken Cordon Bleu is a classic favorite, but let’s face it, it can be quite time-consuming to make on a busy weeknight. That’s where these sliders save the day!

They capture all the irresistible flavors of chicken cordon bleu but in a quick and simple way. With minimal prep and assembly, you’ll have a crowd-pleasing meal on the table in no time.

And, trust me, these sliders are definitely a crowd-pleaser! The tender rotisserie chicken, savory deli ham, and melty Swiss cheese create a winning combination that’s well loved for a reason. The soft and slightly sweet Hawaiian rolls provide the perfect base to complement the savory fillings. But what really takes these sliders to the next level is the tangy and slightly sweet honey-mustard sandwich spread! It adds so much flavor to every single bite! And, finally, let’s not forget the garlic-herb butter that gets brushed on top — it’s the perfect finishing touch!

Chicken Cordon Bleu Slider Ingredients

  • Hawaiian dinner rolls: These are slightly sweet and fluffy, making them a great complement to the savory ingredients. You can usually find these in the bakery section of most supermarkets, or in the packaged bread and roll aisle.
  • Deli ham: Choose a quality, thinly sliced ham. You can ask for it to be sliced at your grocery store’s deli counter to get the best-tasting deli ham at the thickness you want.
  • Swiss cheese: Opt for a good quality Swiss cheese that will melt well. We love Sargento® pre-sliced Swiss!
  • Rotisserie chicken: This is a great time-saving ingredient. You can usually find ready-to-eat rotisserie chicken at your local grocery store. For the quickest prep time, I suggest buying rotisserie chicken meat that has already been pulled from the bones and shredded. You can usually find this in the deli section of most grocery stores. OR: Leftover cooked or grilled chicken: If you have some on hand, leftover cooked or grilled chicken with a basic salt and pepper seasoning can also work well for this recipe.
  • Garlic-Herb Butter: This is used to brush the tops of the rolls, adding a garlicky, herby flavor. To simplify the ingredients list, I prefer using a ready-made garlic-herb butter, such as the incredible Kerrygold variety, which keeps the topping effortlessly delicious. However, if this isn’t accessible to you, a homemade blend of 4 tablespoons butter mixed with 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning will do the trick just as well.

Honey-Mustard Sauce Ingredients

  • Mayonnaise: Stick to full-fat mayonnaise for the best flavor and creaminess. Best Foods/Hellman’s® is our favorite on these Chicken Cordon Bleu Sliders!
  • Dijon Mustard: This mustard adds a layer of complexity to the spread. Don’t substitute with yellow mustard; the flavor profile is quite different.
  • Honey: The honey not only adds sweetness, it’s also crucial for balancing the tanginess of the Dijon.
  • Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed is the way to go! It gives a brighter and more natural taste compared to bottled lemon juice.
  • Fine Sea Salt: Don’t forget to add a pinch of salt to this sauce! Salt will enhance and balance the flavors.

How To Make Chicken Cordon Bleu Sliders (Tips)

  • Cutting the rolls: Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half while they’re still attached to each other. This makes it easier to assemble the sliders and keep them together. Be sure to use a very sharp serrated knife here!
  • Layering: When assembling the sliders, layer the ingredients evenly to ensure each bite is balanced with ham, chicken, and cheese.
  • The spread: Don’t skimp on the sandwich spread– it really adds to the flavor profile of the sliders. Make sure you distribute it evenly across both the top and bottom halves of the rolls.
  • Butter: Brush the butter evenly over the rolls. Don’t forget the sides! This helps get a nice golden color all around.
  • Baking: Cover the sliders with foil for the first part of baking to prevent them from drying out or the tops from getting too brown. Then remove the foil for the last 5 minutes to let them get crispy.
  • Serving: Serve the sliders warm for the gooiest cheese and the crispiest bread.

VARIATIONS

Change Up Your Sliders!

  • Add bacon: Add crispy bacon to the sliders for an extra layer of smoky flavor. Simply bake some bacon until crispy and layer it along with the other fillings.
  • Replace chicken with turkey: Instead of using rotisserie chicken, try using leftover holiday turkey that has been shredded.
  • Switch up the cheese: While this recipe calls for Swiss, you’re the master of this recipe, so don’t hesitate to experiment with other cheeses like Provolone or Cheddar.

What To Serve with Chicken Cordon Bleu Sliders

Chicken Cordon Bleu Sliders pair well with a variety of side dishes. Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Crispy french fries: Serve the sliders with a side of golden and crispy french fries for a classic combination. Sweet potato fries work just as well!
  2. Green salad: Balance the richness of the sliders with a refreshing garden salad. This Italian salad or Caesar salad would also make a nice side.
  3. Creamy coleslaw: The creamy and crunchy texture of coleslaw complements the sliders perfectly. This apple coleslaw would also be fun on the side.
  4. Fresh fruit: Add a refreshing touch to your meal by serving a platter of fresh fruit slices or a fruit salad
  5. Pickles: Tangy and crunchy pickles make a great accompaniment to the sliders. They provide a contrasting flavor and texture that cuts through the richness.
  6. Chips: Serve a variety of chips on the side– whatever varieties you like best!
  7. Roasted vegetables: Roasted vegetables, such as asparagus, broccoli, or Brussels sprouts, offer a flavorful and nutritious side option.

Ingredients

Sandwich Spread

  • ¼ cup full-fat mayo (recommended: Best Foods/Hellmans)
  • tablespoons EACH: Dijon mustard and honey
  • 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • teaspoon fine sea salt

Sliders

Instructions

  • PREP: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Generously grease a 9x13-inch pan. With a sharp serrated knife, slice the unseparated Hawaiian rolls in half, creating a top and bottom slab. Place the bottom slab of the rolls in the prepared pan.
The rolls used in this recipe being cut in half.
  • SAUCE: Whisk together sandwich spread ingredients until smooth. Spread just over half of the sauce on the bottom slab of rolls and the remaining on the top half.
  • ASSEMBLE: To the bottom slab of rolls, layer half the cheese followed by the ham, chicken, and the rest of the cheese. Add the top slab of rolls back on top of everything.
  • BAKE: Melt butter in the microwave then slowly pour over the rolls. Use a pastry brush or spatula to evenly spread the mixture over the tops and sides. A little bit of the butter will pool at the bottom of the rolls, which you want-- it makes the bottoms crispy! Cover the sliders with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 3-6 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the rolls are golden on the top and bottom.
  • ENJOY: Remove from the oven and serve promptly. Best enjoyed right out of the oven; they get soggy after sitting for any length of time.

Recipe Notes

Note 1: Rotisserie chicken: Many grocery and warehouse stores offer hot-and-ready rotisserie chicken! However, for the quickest prep time, I suggest buying rotisserie chicken meat that has already been pulled from the bones and shredded. You can usually find this in the deli section of most grocery stores.
  • OR: Leftover cooked or grilled chicken: If you have some on hand, leftover baked chicken or grilled chicken with a basic salt and pepper seasoning can also work well for this recipe.
Note 2: Butter: Nothing beats this amazing Kerrygold® garlic butter (so delicious and helps cut down on ingredients needed!). However, a homemade blend of 4 tablespoons butter mixed with ¼ to ½ teaspoon of garlic powder and ½ to 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning will do the trick just as well.
