The Best Cuban Sliders Recipe

I love sliders so much! They’re the ultimate party food, so flavorful, and simple to make!

While I typically serve sliders for game days or holidays, I’m realizing how nice they are in the summer when there is a slew of my boys’ friends over (and they’re always hungry). They can down a pan of sliders in no time at all!

All the ingredients prepped out for easy assembly of these sandwiches.

Ingredients

A Cubano and a Cuban sandwich are the same thing. Both have roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on Cuban bread, then pressed and toasted.

These Cuban Sliders aren’t too different. Here’s a quick look at the main ingredients:

  • Hawaiian sweet dinner rolls: Soft, slightly sweet, and buttery—perfect for crisping up in the oven.
  • Shredded pork: Cooked and seasoned pork makes these sliders super easy. If you can’t find pre-cooked pork, try making some in a slow cooker or just double the ham instead.
  • Ham: Deli ham works great here, but any thinly sliced ham will do.
  • Swiss cheese: Baby Swiss cheese is my favorite for these sliders, but any Swiss cheese works.
  • Pickles: Stick with dill pickles—chips or slices. Avoid bread and butter pickles for this recipe.
  • Dijon mustard: Go for Dijon, not yellow mustard. I love Grey Poupon® for these Cuban Sliders.

Quick Tip

What is the name of the traditional Cuban Sandwich? A Cubano. Translated, it means “the Cuban one.”

What To Eat With Cuban Sliders

How To Make Cuban Sliders

  1. Cut Rolls: Slice the rolls in half across the middle and place the bottom half in the baking dish.
  2. Make Sauce: Mix Dijon mustard, Worcestershire, and melted butter. Spread half on the bottom rolls and the other half on the top rolls.
  3. Build Sliders: Layer Swiss cheese, ham, pork, pickles, and more Swiss cheese on the bottom rolls. Bake without the top rolls for 10 minutes.
  4. Top Rolls: Add the top rolls and brush with melted butter mixed with minced garlic, onion, poppy seeds, and sea salt.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake another 5-10 minutes until golden and melty.
  6. Slice and Serve: Let cool for 5 minutes, then slice and serve.
Add cheese on top of the meat layers. Place the top rolls on the cheese, then brush with the butter mixture. Bake everything until golden and bubbly for delicious Cuban sliders.

Storage

These Cuban Sliders are best fresh when the rolls are crisp and the cheese is melted.

For leftovers, cool them to room temperature, then store in airtight bags or containers in the fridge. They will get softer and a bit soggy over time.

Cuban Sliders

Cuban Sliders with soft Hawaiian rolls, packed with gooey Swiss cheese, delicious shredded pork, savory ham, and crunchy dill pickles.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
Servings: 12 sliders

Ingredients

  • 12 count Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon-style mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 ounces thinly sliced deli ham
  • 2-1/2 cups cooked pulled pork Note 1
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese
  • 30 dill pickle chips drained
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter divided
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons dried minced garlic
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 3/4 teaspoon sea salt flakes Note 2

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
  • Unwrap the rolls. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice horizontally through all the rolls in one go, keeping the individual rolls connected. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking dish.
  • In a small bowl, combine Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and 3 tablespoons of melted (but slightly cooled) butter. Mix until smooth. Spread half of the sauce over the bottom half of the rolls in the baking dish. Spread the remaining sauce on the cut side of the top half of the rolls.
  • Layer half of the Swiss cheese slices on the bottom rolls. Add the ham, followed by the pulled pork, and then the pickles. Top with the remaining Swiss cheese. Press down gently to create an even layer. Bake without the top rolls for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and place the top rolls over the cheese.
  • In another small bowl, mix the remaining 5 tablespoons of melted butter with minced garlic, minced onion, poppy seeds, and sea salt flakes. Stir to combine. Brush the mixture over the top and sides of the rolls using a pastry brush.
  • Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the rolls are golden and the cheese is melted. Remove from the oven and let stand for 5 minutes. Slice the rolls apart with a sharp knife and serve promptly. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Note 1: If you can find pre-cooked, seasoned, and shredded pork at your grocery store, it makes this recipe super easy! Check near the rotisserie chicken. If unavailable, you can cook and shred pork in a slow cooker or double the ham instead. Don’t use pre-cooked pork in BBQ sauce.
Note 2: Sea salt flakes are large, so you can’t substitute them directly with fine salt. If using fine/table salt, add just a small pinch instead.

Do you think these could be assembled a few days in advance and baked/sauced before serving? Wondering if the spread might make them too soggy…

    1. Chelsea Lords says:

They’d get soggy assembled ahead; sorry!

    2. Chelsea says:

They come together so quick I wouldn’t recommend making them more than a day in advance. If you need to make more than a day in advance I’d just leave off the spread until right before baking.

Great idea! I had leftover roasted pork loin and used that instead of the shredded pork; just sliced it thin and it worked out great!

WOW. DELISH!!! I doubled it for my family if 5 (3 teen boys) for dinner. I have a small hackโ€ฆitโ€™s going to sound strange. But itโ€™s delicious.

I got the Jack Danielโ€™s pulled pork package from Target and rinsed the BBQ OFF then dried it with paper towels. (Short on time.)

Weโ€™ll, it priced absolutely delicious. I also used the (drained) Claussen refrigerated pickles.

    SO YUMMY.

    Will be making again!!!
