The Best Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

I love smoothies—Mango Smoothies, Chocolate Protein Shakes—but blueberries? Not my thing until my kids, who love them, asked for one. After trying different things, this recipe made me love blueberries!

Now, it’s my favorite morning smoothie, especially in summer. It’s so easy my kids make it themselves! With just four ingredients, it’s simple but incredibly creamy, sweet, and full of blueberry flavor. Try it, and you’ll see why we love it!

The four ingredients: frozen fruit, banana, almond milk, and nut butter prepped out for easy assembly.

Ingredients In Blueberry Banana Smoothie

This smoothie truly couldn’t be easier with only 4-ingredients!

  1. Almond Milk: I like vanilla almond milk for extra flavor, but any milk works—I use whole milk for my kids.
  2. Frozen Blueberries: Wild blueberries have the best flavor! Using frozen berries makes the smoothie thicker without ice, so it’s not too thin or icy.
  3. Frozen Banana: Freeze banana slices overnight for the best feel.
  4. Almond Butter: Keeps you full longer. Swap with peanut butter or any nut butter if you prefer.

How To Make A Blueberry Smoothie

  1. Freeze Banana: For a creamy feel, peel, slice, and freeze bananas overnight in a freezer-safe bag, or use pre-frozen slices.
  2. Measure: Measuring ingredients helps get the right flavor and not make too much.
  3. Blend: With a strong blender (Vitamix® or Blendtec®), blend everything until smooth.

Mix Ins And Ways To Change It Up

  • Protein Powder: For extra protein, add some vanilla or chocolate protein powder or a tablespoon of hemp seeds.
  • Spinach: Spinach mixes in easily and doesn’t change the flavor.
  • Switch Up the Fruit: Use frozen cherries (check out this Cherry Smoothie), or any frozen berries for a new flavor.
  • Make It Chocolate: Try this Chocolate Blueberry Smoothie for a deep, chocolatey flavor!

Tips For Success

I know—how hard can a smoothie be, right?! But these tips will make it even better!

  • Use good ingredients for the best flavor. With just four ingredients, fresh ingredients make a difference.
  • If it’s not sweet enough, add honey or maple syrup. A ripe banana is usually enough, but flavor and add a teaspoon or two if needed.

Recipe Notes

Note 1: You can use any type of milk you like; just check and make sure it’s dairy free if that’s a concern. Vegan = no animal products, so vegans will need to use nut milk instead of cow’s milk.
Note 2: The better the flavor of the almond butter, the better the smoothie tastes! I like to get a dry-roasted and lightly salted almond butter!
Storage: Best enjoyed fresh, as leftovers don’t store well.
