Our Favorite Summer Drink!
I’ve been on a roll with Chick-Fil-A copycat recipes lately. Chicken salad, coleslaw, kale salad, crispy chicken sandwiches, the sauce… and here’s one more before I take a little break. Their frozen lemonade! These have become a summertime staple around my home, but let’s be real…buying one for everyone adds up fast. So I thought, why not just make them at home?
And honestly? I’m loving it. You can make them exactly how you like. Extra tart, extra creamy, whatever mood you’re in. I whipped up a batch the other day while my son had a friend over, and his friend said it was better than the real deal. I’ll take that win!
Frozen Lemonade Ingredients
Think of frozen lemonade as a cross between a slushy and homemade sorbet. Here’s what we’ve got in it:
Ingredient | Amount | Notes and Swaps |
---|---|---|
Chilled lemonade | 1 cup | Nothing beats homemade in this recipe! |
Vanilla ice cream | 2 cups | I like Edy’s slow-churned or Häagen‑Dazs Vanilla Bean |
Lemon zest | ½ teaspoon | I love this zester |
Lemon juice | 1 tablespoon | I love this juicer |
Optional sweetener | To taste | Add sugar, honey, or agave if you’d like your frozen lemonade sweeter |
Pro Tips For The Best Frozen Lemonade
- Chill the lemonade: Make sure it’s super cold before blending.
- Use firm ice cream: Scoop it straight from the freezer for a thick texture.
- Blend gently: Pulse or blend on low just until smooth.
- Chill your cups: Freeze your glasses beforehand for an hour so the drink stays cold.
- Use SunKist lemons: This is what Chick-Fil-A uses in their lemonade.
- Pick the right ice cream: IMO Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Bean is the closest match to Chick-Fil-A’s Ice dream.

Storage
Best enjoyed right after blending while thick and frosty. To prep ahead, freeze in a shallow container, then thaw slightly and re-blend before serving. Texture will be slightly less creamy.
Frozen Lemonade FAQs
Use a diet lemonade and a frozen vanilla yogurt. You could even add in some vanilla protein powder for more staying power.
Try limeade and a lime instead!
Try coconut vanilla ice cream
No, it’s not the same as lemonade, which is sweetened.
