A super quick, easy, and adorable way to decorate yellow cupcakes -- made to look like a Spring chick!

The Easiest Spring Chick Cupcakes

  • 1 package Yellow Cake mix + ingredients called for


  • 4 ounces full-fat cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup salted butter soft but not melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract optional
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar


  • Yellow sugar sprinkles
  • Miniature chocolate chips
  • Orange food coloring


  1. Prepare the cupcakes according to package directions and allow to completely cool.
  2. Meanwhile, prepare the frosting.
  3. In a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, beat the room temperature cream cheese and softened (NOT melted) butter until completely combined and creamy. Add in the extracts.
  4. Beat in the powdered sugar a cup at a time until well combined. I usually use around 3 cups, but it varies. Add until the frosting is to your desired thickness.
  5. Frost the cupcakes and then press the freshly frosted cupcakes into a bowl or rimmed plate filled with the sugar sprinkles.
  6. Press in 2 miniature chocolate chips for eyes and then take the remaining frosting and dye it orange. Fill up a piping bag with a #2 or #3 tip and fill with frosting (alternatively, fill up a plastic bag with the frosting and cut off the very tip)
  7. Pipe on a beak and little feet.
  8. Allow to dry and enjoy!
