Sparkling Raspberry Limeade Sometimes the simple things are the best things, amiright? 🙂 It sure applies to this recipe for Sparkling Raspberry Limeade! It’s not at all complicated, but the flavors and textures combine to make an amazing blend. Ingredients: Raspberries: Use fresh red raspberries if possible. Frozen raspberries (unsweetened) are a close second, though. Raspberries are uniquely flavorful and very high in antioxidants. You can use other fruits, but of course, the flavor will be different. Get creative! How about sparkling strawberry limeade garnished with mint leaves? Or a peach limeade? They both sound refreshingly scrumptious. Most fruits contain pulp and tiny seeds and raspberries are no exception. That’s why we press the mixture through a sieve after blending. While you technically could make this drink without straining, it would end up mighty thick, with a gnarly texture. We prefer the way it looks and feels with strained juice. Lime juice: Again, fresh limes are the best, but if that’s not possible, go with frozen lime juice (not limeade) concentrate in the frozen juices section of the grocery store. For this recipe, you’ll be juicing about 18 fresh limes. That’s a lot of limes and a lot of squeezing, but the effort will be well worth it once you take a sip of the finished Sparkling Raspberry Limeade! Sugar: Trust me, raspberries and limes make a tart mixture, even with sugar added. Skipping the sugar (or other sweetener) would be a BIG mistake! If you do choose to use another sweetener, I suggest a granulated one to provide similar results. A squeeze of stevia would sweeten the drink but would change the ratio of liquid and solids. Sparkling limeade: You can use lime-flavored sparkling water as well as the limeade, but it won’t have quite as limey a flavor. If, on the other hand, the sparkling limeade creates too strong of a flavor, then going with the flavored sparkling water would help tone it down a bit. Sparkling beverages lose their fizz pretty quickly, so add it to the drink base right as you’re ready to serve it. Ice and garnishes: Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the Sparkling Raspberry Limeade! Ice enhances the flavor–seriously! Garnishes are optional, but they add a festive touch and make your drink look irresistibly inviting. Try a sprinkling of fresh raspberries and a lime wedge. Or slice up a lime and hook one on the edge of each glass! Mint leaves add a refreshing whisper of flavor, and if you have a tiny drink umbrella….go for it! QUICK TIP Why press the blended berries through a sieve? It helps remove most of the pulp and the tiny seeds that get caught in your teeth. Straining it this way makes for a prettier, crystal-clear drink. You can also use a very-fine mesh collander.
